HOW WE FIT INTO THE NHS STRUCTURE

NHS Rotherham is one of over 100 PCTs in England. It is a separate statutory authority in its own right, accountable to the Secretary of State.

We are accountable for the following key functions of:

  • Improving the health of the local population
  • Commissioning services to meet the health needs of the local population

Money to undertake the above roles is allocated to primary care trusts by Parliament via the Department of Health.

NHS Rotherham has a number of contracts with NHS provider trusts and non NHS bodies for patient care. Its largest contracts are with Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (for services at the Rotherham General Hospital and most of the local community health services), Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust and the Rotherham, Doncaster & South Humber Mental Healthcare Foundation Trust.

NHS Rotherham is also responsible for contracts with General Practitioners, Opticians, Community Pharmacists and General Dental Practitioners. For those services, NHS Rotherham is responsible for the application of rules & regulations which surround the delivery of these contracts.

NHS Rotherham is performance managed by NHS North of England.

Further information on any of the above can be obtained from:
