NHS Rotherham is responsible for spending the NHS budget for the population of Rotherham and for promoting better health. Our vision is:
“Better Health and Better Lives for everyone in Rotherham”
What we do
We have a budget of £469 million and are responsible for planning and purchasing health services and ensuring that local hospital services and specialist treatment are available for local patients who need them and that they offer value for money. We also work to promote health and healthier lifestyles and to ensure that the services our patients receive are of a very high standard.
NHS Rotherham serves a population of 255,000 people.
We commission a number of services from GP practices, opticians, pharmacists, hospital trusts, mental health care services, independent and voluntary providers. Our work is performance managed by NHS North of England.
We also work closely with the people of Rotherham to develop programmes to help them to lead healthier lifestyles and better manage their own health.
The Government has far reaching proposals to change the NHS. A key change will be that GPs, and other clinicians, get a greater say in where money is invested for patient care. The Government proposes that Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and their Boards be abolished by April 2013, with much of their commissioning role handled instead by newly created Clinical Commissioning Groups.
In October 2011 Rotherham Clinical Commissioning Group was formally established as a sub-committee of NHS South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw and was given a delegated budget of £338 million of NHS Rotherham’s budget. The Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), like all other CCGs, will go through an authorisation process during 2012, to become a statutory body by April 2013.
