The days of not being able to find an NHS dentist in Rotherham are long gone and today people have more choice than ever with nearly 70 per cent of Rotherham dental practices now accepting NHS patients – children and/or adults.
Ken Wragg, Consultant in Dental Public Health said;
“We have invested considerably into NHS dentistry over the last few years and the investment is now paying off as more dental practices are accepting children, adults or both for NHS dental care.
“We know that more than 1-in-5 people in Rotherham have not been to the dentist within the last two years but visiting a dentist regularly helps to prevent the two main dental problems; gum disease and tooth decay.
"The frequency at which people should attend the dentist depends on the individual but the dentist will advise on how often this is necessary.
“To maintain good dental health make sure you brush your teeth twice a day using fluoride toothpaste and reduce the amount of sugary food and drinks which if eaten, should be limited to mealtimes”.
A recent NHS survey suggested that almost 40 per cent of Rotherham people don’t attend a dentist regularly because they think that treatment is too expensive and 20% were scared of the dentist.
