Kilnhurst surgery extension and refurbishment

Patients at a Rotherham GP practice are enjoying the benefits of a newly extended and refurbished surgery.

Work began last winter on the improvements to the Highthorn Road Surgery at Kilnhurst. The practice has over 7000 registered patients living in Kilnhurst and Swinton. The Scheme was jointly funded by the practice and NHS Rotherham.

Three new consulting rooms have been added to the premises and a further treatment room and the nurse and health care assistant rooms have been refurbished. The waiting room has been extended and improved to provide a more welcoming environment for the patients.

The partners of the practice said: “We would like to thank NHS Rotherham for part funding the extension and refurbishments and our staff and patients for their patience during the building works and coping with the upheaval as clinics were moved around the building and the reception area facilities were regularly changing.

“The upheaval has been worth it as our staff and patients can now benefit from fantastic new and improved facilities.”

The extension was recently opened by Mr Alan Tolhurst OBE, Chairman of NHS Rotherham, alongside patients and local service providers, who were treated to a guided tour of the new premises.

The revamped premises provide new clinics and services for patients, including specialist diabetes clinics, Reshape Rotherham, health trainers, a dietitian and teenage sexual health clinics in addition to existing physiotherapy, minor surgery and mental health counselling. It also has the capacity to provide satellite clinics for the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.
