Dr Philip Drury has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the NHS Rotherham Trust Board by the Appointments Commission.
Dr Philip Drury was a previous Non-Executive Director from 1st December 2007 until he stood down in August last year. Following a number of changes to the structure of the organisation over the last 12 months Dr Drury has been appointed to the post with affect from 14th April 2011 until 31st March 2013 and will receive a remuneration of £7,882 per annum which is the current rate of remuneration for Non-executive Directors of Primary Care Trusts.
He brings with him a wealth of experience at a senior level from the commercial and private sector. He was previously Chief Executive of his own company, Philip Drury Medical Technologies, (now Emergo UK ltd). His career in the healthcare sector has spanned many activities as diverse as medical research, teaching and medical device expertise.
He is also a Government approved Assessor of high-risk medical implants and devices, a Governor at Sheffield Hallam University, a Trustee of Croft House Settlement, Sheffield, a Director of Mica Consulting Services Ltd, a Non-Executive Director of Medipex Ltd, a Member of the International Standards Organisation Working Groups and a Member of the British Standards Technical Committees.
As a Non-executive Director of NHS Rotherham, Dr Drury’s duties will include:
- helping to plan for the future to improve services
- ensuring the management team meets performance targets
- making sure the finances are managed properly with accurate information
- helping the Trust Board work in the public interest and keep its patients and public properly informed
- serving on Trust Board committees.
All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public. Dr Drury declared no political activity and does not hold any other Ministerial appointments.
He has joined Chairman Mr Alan Tolhurst and non-executive directors Mrs Pat Wade, Mr Robin Stonebridge, Mrs Rekha Kapoor and Mr John Gomersall.
The duty of the Trust Board is to add value to the organisation, enabling it to deliver healthcare and health improvement. It makes sure that the organisation works effectively and makes the best use of public money. It provides leadership, makes decisions about services and ensures that staff, facilities and finances are managed properly.
A key part of the work is to plan for the future to enable services to be improved.NHS Rotherham is responsible for spending over £460 million to deliver key health services and improve health within the borough. This money funds hospital, mental health and primary care services.
