Staff training

This section is for health professionals with an interest in training to support people either to stop smoking or to make their home smokefree. We offer training to all frontline staff who are keen to support Smokefree Rotherham and share an interest in Public Health.

To book your place or for more information please call 01709 422444

The stop smoking training has two levels and staff must complete level 1 before going on to level 2. Awareness raising training is also provided.

Smokefree homes training enables staff to discuss alternatives if patients are not ready or willing to stop smoking.

No clinical training is required to attend either level of training.

Raising awareness training

Raising awareness training takes no more than 1 hour . The training is aimed at
health professionals in Rotherham Community Health Services and in GP practices and covers how to raise the issue of smoking and refer to the Rotherham Stop Smoking Service. For NHS Rotherham frontline staff this training is generally arranged to take place at team meetings.

Level 1 training

A half day course that gives a more in depth knowledge to enable participants to raise the issues of smoking, to motivate smokers to consider stopping smoking and to refer service users to the Rotherham Stop Smoking Service. This course is a pre-requirement to attending the level 2 training.

Level 2 training

A two day course that aims to enable attendees to provide stop smoking support and advice using an evidence based programme and treatments used for stopping smoking. After completing the initial two day training course, attendees will have a half day update two months later. An application form for this course is given at the level 1 training.

To book your place on any of the courses above please call 01709 422444.

Smokefree homes training

This is a one hour training session on the smokefree homes project, the effects of second hand smoke and how to protect others by signing them up to make their home and car smokefree. This will enable front line staff to be able to work with the people who are not ready or willing to stop smoking to protect their family from their tobacco smoke.

To book your place on the smokefree homes training please call 01709 308870.
